About the university

Why students choose Cardiff University

The largest university in Wales and a Russell Group member, with well-regarded journalism, architecture and healthcare schools.

Both direct entry and foundation or pathway routes are available here. If your grades or English score fall short of direct admission, the pathway route is a genuine alternative to waiting a year.

Tuition, entry requirements and intake dates differ by programme and change each year. Ask us for the current figures for the course you are considering rather than relying on published averages.

Tawjihi

Graduates of the national high school system (Tawjihi) may need to complete an International Foundation Year before starting an undergraduate course.

Other bachelor's routes

A recognised International Foundation Programme, a Community College Diploma, or one or more years of study at a recognised Jordanian university may be accepted for undergraduate entry; good A levels or the IB Diploma are also considered.

Master's

An undergraduate honours degree or accepted equivalent from a recognised university with a minimum GPA of 2.8 out of 4 is considered for taught postgraduate courses.

PhD

A master's from a recognised Jordanian institution is considered; in some cases a bachelor's with at least Second Class Higher Division may be accepted, possibly with a Cardiff master's first.

English

The minimum is usually IELTS 6.5, with higher grades for some courses. The in-house English for University Study programme accepts students from IELTS 4.0 for September entry.

Guidance only: meeting a requirement does not guarantee an offer, and each course sets its own grades and English level. Checked November 2026.
