Overview

Why students choose the Netherlands

The Netherlands has taught degrees in English longer than most of continental Europe, and its universities are used to international cohorts.

Our partnerships here are foundation and pathway focused, which suits students whose grades or English do not yet meet direct-entry requirements but who want a route into the Dutch system.

What it costs

A year in the Netherlands, in real numbers

The study norm does not include tuition fees, and the IND updates the amount every year on 1 January.

Tuition ranges are the international fees published by our partner universities in the Netherlands, per year. Some specialist programmes cost more.

Student visa

The visa for the Netherlands, step by step for Jordanians

  1. 1

    Your university applies

In the Netherlands only your university or hbo institution can apply to the IND for your student residence permit. You cannot apply for it yourself.

  2. 2

    Entry visa (MVV) for Jordanians

Jordanian citizens need a provisional residence permit (MVV) to enter. It is requested together with the residence permit by the institution, and you collect it at the Dutch embassy.

  3. 3

    Show 12 months of funds

You must prove you have the study norm for 12 months (about EUR 13,569 in 2026), for example in your own bank account, paid to the university, a scholarship or a sponsor statement.

  4. 4

    Documents and translations

Financial documents must be in Dutch, English, German or French and not older than 3 months. Each study year you also sign the IND income statement form.

  5. 5

    Permit valid for your course

The IND issues the student residence permit for up to 5 years, valid 3 months longer than your study programme.

Visa rules change. Always follow the official guidance for your application date; ask us to check your file before you submit. Also see ind.nl. Checked October 2026.

Questions

What students ask us about the Netherlands

Can't see yours? Ask a counsellor on WhatsApp - you get a person, not a bot.

Ask on WhatsApp
How early should I start my application?

Nine to twelve months before the intake if you want scholarship options and a realistic choice of universities. Three to four months is possible for some destinations but narrows what is available, and for anything requiring an entrance examination or a competitive visa appointment it is usually too late. Start by talking to us, not by choosing a university.

What documents do I need to get started?

For a first assessment we only need your academic transcripts and certificates, and your English test result if you have one. Passport, financial evidence and references come later, once we have agreed a shortlist. Do not send passports or bank statements through a website form.

Do I need an IELTS score before applying?

Not to begin. We can assess your profile and build a shortlist without it, and many universities will issue a conditional offer that you meet later. What the score needs to be depends on the university and the programme, and some institutions accept their own internal test or a pathway route instead.

Can I work while I am studying?

Most study destinations allow international students to work a limited number of hours during term, but the rules differ by country and are revised regularly. Ask us for the current position for your destination rather than relying on what a friend did two years ago.

How much money do I need to show for the visa?

Every destination sets its own financial requirement, and it usually covers first-year tuition plus a set living cost figure. The amount, how long it must have been in the account, and whose account it can be in all vary. We prepare this to your embassy's exact current requirements as part of the visa service.

What happens if my visa is refused?

We tell you the likely reason and whether an appeal or a fresh application is the better route. Most refusals we see come from financial evidence that was technically correct but presented the wrong way, which is preventable. Universities will often defer an offer to the next intake rather than withdraw it.

Are the programmes taught in English?

Many are, but not all, and it varies by faculty within the same university. Some institutions teach a degree in English at master's level and in the local language at undergraduate level. We confirm the language of instruction for the exact programme before you apply.
