Overview

Why students choose Hungary

Hungary is one of the main European destinations for students pursuing medicine, dentistry and veterinary science in English. The universities have run these programmes for international students for decades.

Entry is by examination in most cases, and the timetable runs ahead of general applications. As with any medical degree taken abroad, we confirm the recognition position for the country where the student intends to practise before applying.

Student visa

The visa for Hungary, step by step for Jordanians

Official source: oif.gov.hu
  1. 1

    Residence permit for studies

Jordanian full-time students need a Hungarian residence permit for the purpose of studies. One application covers both the permit and the entry visa.

  2. 2

    Apply at a Hungarian mission

Because Jordanians need a visa for Hungary, submit the application at a Hungarian embassy or consulate in Jordan or your country of residence. Your photo and fingerprints are taken there.

  3. 3

    Key documents

Attach your admission certificate, proof of language ability, proof of paid tuition, proof of funds (your bank statement or a notarised family support declaration), health cover and a Hungarian address.

  4. 4

    Decision within 60 days

The immigration authority decides within 60 days. If approved, you get a D visa valid 3 months to enter Hungary and collect your permit.

  5. 5

    Permit after arrival

Enter Hungary within 3 months of approval. The permit is posted to your university and is valid 1 to 3 years, with extensions through Enter Hungary.

Visa rules change. Always follow the official guidance for your application date; ask us to check your file before you submit. Checked November 2026.

Questions

What students ask us about Hungary

Can't see yours? Ask a counsellor on WhatsApp - you get a person, not a bot.

Ask on WhatsApp
How early should I start my application?

Nine to twelve months before the intake if you want scholarship options and a realistic choice of universities. Three to four months is possible for some destinations but narrows what is available, and for anything requiring an entrance examination or a competitive visa appointment it is usually too late. Start by talking to us, not by choosing a university.

What documents do I need to get started?

For a first assessment we only need your academic transcripts and certificates, and your English test result if you have one. Passport, financial evidence and references come later, once we have agreed a shortlist. Do not send passports or bank statements through a website form.

Do I need an IELTS score before applying?

Not to begin. We can assess your profile and build a shortlist without it, and many universities will issue a conditional offer that you meet later. What the score needs to be depends on the university and the programme, and some institutions accept their own internal test or a pathway route instead.

Can I work while I am studying?

Most study destinations allow international students to work a limited number of hours during term, but the rules differ by country and are revised regularly. Ask us for the current position for your destination rather than relying on what a friend did two years ago.

How much money do I need to show for the visa?

Every destination sets its own financial requirement, and it usually covers first-year tuition plus a set living cost figure. The amount, how long it must have been in the account, and whose account it can be in all vary. We prepare this to your embassy's exact current requirements as part of the visa service.

What happens if my visa is refused?

We tell you the likely reason and whether an appeal or a fresh application is the better route. Most refusals we see come from financial evidence that was technically correct but presented the wrong way, which is preventable. Universities will often defer an offer to the next intake rather than withdraw it.

Will my degree be recognised when I come home?

This is decided by the authorities in the country where you intend to work, not by the university and not by us. For regulated professions such as medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and engineering it determines whether you can register and practise at all. We check the position for the specific institution and programme before you apply, and it is free.

Are the programmes taught in English?

Many are, but not all, and it varies by faculty within the same university. Some institutions teach a degree in English at master's level and in the local language at undergraduate level. We confirm the language of instruction for the exact programme before you apply.
