Overview

Why students choose Turkey

Turkey is the practical choice for many families in Jordan and the Gulf. Flights are short and cheap, the cultural distance is small, and tuition sits well below the English-speaking destinations.

Medicine and dentistry are the main draw. Places are available to international students on terms that would be extremely difficult to secure in the UK or Canada, and many programmes are taught in English.

The question we always work through first is recognition: whether the degree will be accepted by the professional body in the country where the student intends to practise. That answer needs settling before an application, not after graduation.

Before you choose a medical school, read our guide to the Jordanian rules and the real costs:

Student visa

The visa for Turkey, step by step for Jordanians

  1. 1

    Student visa required

Even if you can visit Türkiye as a tourist, Turkish rules say travel for study needs a visa from a Turkish mission, so Jordanian students must get a student visa before travelling.

  2. 2

    Apply once admitted

Apply as soon as you receive your university admission letter, since student visa procedures can take time.

  3. 3

    Pre-apply online

Start your sticker visa application through the Turkish consular pre-application system (konsolosluk.gov.tr), then complete it at the Turkish Embassy in Amman.

  4. 4

    Student residence permit

After arriving, apply online for a student residence permit and hand the required documents to your university’s international or student affairs office as soon as possible.

Visa rules change. Always follow the official guidance for your application date; ask us to check your file before you submit. Also see mfa.gov.tr. Checked November 2026.

Questions

What students ask us about Turkey

Can't see yours? Ask a counsellor on WhatsApp - you get a person, not a bot.

Ask on WhatsApp
How early should I start my application?

Nine to twelve months before the intake if you want scholarship options and a realistic choice of universities. Three to four months is possible for some destinations but narrows what is available, and for anything requiring an entrance examination or a competitive visa appointment it is usually too late. Start by talking to us, not by choosing a university.

What documents do I need to get started?

For a first assessment we only need your academic transcripts and certificates, and your English test result if you have one. Passport, financial evidence and references come later, once we have agreed a shortlist. Do not send passports or bank statements through a website form.

Do I need an IELTS score before applying?

Not to begin. We can assess your profile and build a shortlist without it, and many universities will issue a conditional offer that you meet later. What the score needs to be depends on the university and the programme, and some institutions accept their own internal test or a pathway route instead.

Can I work while I am studying?

Most study destinations allow international students to work a limited number of hours during term, but the rules differ by country and are revised regularly. Ask us for the current position for your destination rather than relying on what a friend did two years ago.

How much money do I need to show for the visa?

Every destination sets its own financial requirement, and it usually covers first-year tuition plus a set living cost figure. The amount, how long it must have been in the account, and whose account it can be in all vary. We prepare this to your embassy's exact current requirements as part of the visa service.

What happens if my visa is refused?

We tell you the likely reason and whether an appeal or a fresh application is the better route. Most refusals we see come from financial evidence that was technically correct but presented the wrong way, which is preventable. Universities will often defer an offer to the next intake rather than withdraw it.

Will my degree be recognised when I come home?

This is decided by the authorities in the country where you intend to work, not by the university and not by us. For regulated professions such as medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and engineering it determines whether you can register and practise at all. We check the position for the specific institution and programme before you apply, and it is free.

Are the programmes taught in English?

Many are, but not all, and it varies by faculty within the same university. Some institutions teach a degree in English at master's level and in the local language at undergraduate level. We confirm the language of instruction for the exact programme before you apply.
